A Study on the Human Errors on the Aircraft Automation System

    Abstract

    Aviation industry has been pursuing aircraft automation in order to enhance aviation safety, decrease the workload of pilots, and to increase aircraft operational efficiency. Paradoxically, aircraft automation has become one of the common and main causes of catastrophic accidents. In order to analyze this issue and find recommendations, this research analyzed 94 cases from Flight Deck Automation Issues, using the Human Factor Analysis Classification System model. According to the analysis, a standardized training system may not actively prevent human error related to aircraft automation. Therefore, the introduction to a training system such as an advanced qualification program or alternative training qualification program, which analyze and reflect personal deficiencies into a focused training is urgently needed.
